Medical emergencies in India can be financially devastating for struggling families.
Stuti Modliar was a 5-month-old girl from Pune who never got a chance to see the world because her family couldn't afford the critical operation that could've saved her. In India, stories like Stuti's echo far too often. Families face a crushing blow: a loved one desperately needs medical care, but finances become an insurmountable barrier. Many parents go through this feeling of helplessness. Stuti's tragedy, like countless others, reminds us - this cannot be the norm.
At Making the Difference Charitable Trust, we refuse to accept such heartbreak. We believe in hope, in second chances. That's why Project Sanjeevani was born - a beacon for families drowning in medical emergencies and financial despair. Nearly 200,000 children per year are born with Congenital Heart Diseases and require surgery. About half of these children do not even make it past their first birthday. Although due to a lack of affordable treatment or surgery options, only about 60,000 surgeries are performed. These surgeries are the last fight and the the last chance the children have to live. The last hope for the grieving families of children, like Stuti. (source: vanderbilt university medical centre) and (source: National Institutes of health NIH)
The cost of these life-saving surgeries can range from lakhs to crores, pushing families into a debilitating cycle of debt or forcing them to sell their meager belongings. Imagine a single mother, working tirelessly to provide for her family, faced with the unimaginable choice – her child's life or their only source of income.
Project Sanjeevani is fighting to rewrite these statistics. By providing financial assistance and access to critical care, we've helped countless families like Stuti's get the treatment their loved ones need. Imagine the smiles that replace the tears, the laughter that fills the silence – that's the power of Project Sanjeevani. "I am grateful beyond words to Making The Difference NGO They have bbecome our family's saviors, providing the financial assisstance needed for my child's treatment. Now, I firmly believe in miracles and the presence of angels among us. Words cannot express the depth of my happiness and gratitude." - Mrs. Jyoti Chavan, mother of 4-year old Mayank Chavan.
